The Chinese government offers scholarships to outstanding international students and researchers to support their studies or research at Chinese universities. These scholarships aim to foster global friendships, enhance mutual understanding, and promote academic and cultural exchanges between China and other countries.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC), under the Ministry of Education of China, is responsible for managing the selection, enrollment, and administration of scholarship recipients.

Types of Scholarships & How to Apply

  1. Bilateral Program: This program is based on agreements between China and other countries. It is open to undergraduates, postgraduates, and scholars. Submit your application through the relevant department in your home country.
  2. University Program: Designed for talented international students recommended by designated Chinese universities. The specific requirements vary by university. Apply directly to the Chinese universities participating in this program.
  3. Designated Scholarship Programs: These scholarships are established through partnerships between China and international organizations or institutions. Submit your application through the relevant international organization or institution.
  4. Student Exchange Program: This program supports scholars for short-term training (up to 12 months) as part of exchange agreements between Chinese universities and their foreign partners. Apply through the relevant Chinese universities and their international partners.

Scholarship Benefits

Full Tuition Coverage
Accommodation (University Dormitory or Subsidy)
Monthly Stipend:

  • Undergraduates: ¥2,500
  • Master’s & General Scholars: ¥3,000
  • Ph.D. & Senior Scholars: ¥3,500
Medical Insurance:
  • ¥800/year for long-term programs
  • ¥400 for programs under six months

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:
Be a non-Chinese citizen in good health
Meet academic and age requirements:

  • Undergraduate: High school diploma, under 25
  • Master’s: Bachelor’s degree, under 35
  • Ph.D.: Master’s degree, under 40
  • General Scholars: High school diploma or higher, under 45
  • Senior Scholars: Master’s degree or associate professor level, under 50
Meet language requirements:
  • Chinese-taught programs: HSK Level 3-4 (varies by program)
  • English-taught programs: IELTS, TOEFL, or other proof of English proficiency

Step 5: Wait for selection and admission results
